Hanging Together
While I don't necessarily see John Roberts as the anti-Christ (at least at this point), I am most
distressed by this:
The Senate Judiciary Committee's senior Democrat, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, announced his endorsement shortly after leaving theThis likely means the usual suspects, i.e. Feinstein, Baucus (who's already given a thumbs up), Nelson, Lieberman and the other DINO's will fall in line after being whipped by the GOP leadership. Roberts, who told the Senate committee NADA about who he is, will likely get 80 votes.
White House. That guaranteed bipartisan backing for Roberts in Tursday's scheduled vote by the committee.
David Corn has a really good read on all this. His main point is that the Democratic Party, as a so-called party, now has no clear policy on two keys issues of the day: Roberts (and obviously what constitutes a SCOTUS nominee) and the Iraq War.
How can we hope win elections with non-positions? Not to mention that each vote sends a message. Yes, Roberts will be nominated. And perhaps he will work out. But this vote is as much about the next nomination as this one. Remember, the current GOP understands only one negotiating tactic........POWER.
Like the old saying, "stand for something or you'll fall for anything".
