Dan Froomkin echos a sentiment that seems to be emerging from Bush's last night speech:
Will the real George W. Bush please stand up?
The essential confusion is how can a conservative politician propose huge deficits and government programs to solve social problems? There are even some far right conservatives scratching their pointy heads over this.

Froomkin is either oblivious to political philosophy, or is scared to state the obvious.

Bush is a fascist. I've outlined the case here so I won't replay it here. But his response to the New Orleans disaster is totally consistent with his philosophy.
